About Strategy Inc

Strategy, which renamed itself from MicroStrategy in February 2025, runs two very different things under one ticker: an enterprise business-intelligence software company, and the largest corporate bitcoin treasury in the world.

Since 2020 the company has used cash, debt, and repeated stock and preferred share offerings to accumulate bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset. Executive chairman Michael Saylor designed the strategy and remains its most visible public advocate.

The software business still serves enterprise analytics customers, but the market values the company mainly as a leveraged vehicle for bitcoin exposure, so the share price tracks bitcoin far more closely than software results.

How does Strategy Inc make money?

• Software: subscriptions, licenses, and support for its enterprise analytics platform bring in a few hundred million dollars of revenue per year.
• Treasury: the company raises capital through stock sales, convertible bonds, and preferred shares, and uses the proceeds to buy bitcoin; gains there are balance-sheet changes, not operating income.
• Under accounting rules adopted in 2025, the company marks its bitcoin to market value each quarter, so reported earnings swing with the bitcoin price.
